Music from 10 to 16
Music you can hear and read.
Maat teaches you to feel rhythm, read music and listen like a musician: pulse and bar, melody and chords, the instruments of the orchestra. You hear every idea, see it on the stave and play it back.
Each domain is a note. Tap a note to see its topics.
No ads, no tracking, no account needed. The learning path and the first three topics are free.
Three new exercises every day, the same for everyone. Do today's starter
Try it: play the keyboard
How a topic works
First the question, then picture and sound, then the explanation.
Every topic has the same four blocks, always in this order. That way you know where you are.
Why
A question from music you know. Why do you clap along at a party without thinking, even to a song you have never heard?
See it and hear it
A picture with sound to play with: a metronome, a keyboard, a rhythm box, a stave where you place the notes yourself. Everything works without sound too.
Get it
The explanation in plain words, then the rule, and an example worked out step by step.
Do it
Exercises checked straight away: reading notes, filling bars, recognising intervals and chords, matching instruments. A new exercise every time.
Then you read the typical pitfalls, where you meet it in real life, a bit of history and what to know first or learn next.
Four domains
From the pulse to the orchestra.
Rhythm
4 topics
Pulse and tempo, note values and rests, bars and time signatures, rhythm patterns in the rhythm box.
Melody and reading music
5 topics
The stave, the treble and bass clefs, the keyboard with sharps and flats, scales and intervals.
Harmony and sound
4 topics
Chords and accompaniment, sound as vibration, the instruments of the orchestra, voices and choir.
Listening to music
3 topics
Dynamics and articulation, musical form, and following a piece with a listening map.
Who it is for
For those who learn, help and teach.
For pupils
Start with what you hear. Play with the keyboard or the rhythm box until you get it, and practise until you feel you can do it. Mistakes are information, not a punishment.
Start practisingFor parents
You do not need to read music yourself. Every topic explains it the way the music lesson does, with a question to talk about together at the table.
Choose a topicFor teachers
Let the class hear and see a picture, let pupils practise at their own level and print a worksheet with the staves and the solutions.

For schools
For schools and teachers.
Maat works in class without fuss: nothing to install, no pupil accounts, the sound comes from the browser itself and a worksheet is ready in a minute.
Worksheets with solutions
Choose a topic, a level and the number of exercises. Print it, the solutions are on a separate sheet.
Free for teachers
Through Kaft you use Maat for free as a teacher, on the interactive whiteboard with the classroom speakers too.
No pupil accounts
Pupils practise without logging in. What they can do stays on their own device.
Picture and sound for the board
Every topic has a picture to play with and listen to, big enough to look at together in class.
