The F clef or bass clef

Low instruments and the piano's left hand read in the bass clef. F sits on the fourth line, and middle C lies exactly between the two clefs.

Secondary, first stageAges 11 to 15Draft: Not yet checked by a music teacher.

Why

Why would a cellist not simply use the treble clef?

A cello, a tuba and a bass guitar play much lower than a flute. In the treble clef their notes would dangle far below the stave, on a whole staircase of ledger lines.

That is why there is a second clef that sets the five lines lower: the bass clef. That way low notes sit comfortably on the stave too.
