Intervals: the distance between two notes

An interval is the distance between two notes, from a second to an octave. You count the letters, and the semitones tell you whether it is major, minor or perfect.

Secondary, first stageAges 12 to 16Draft: Not yet checked by a music teacher.

Why

How does a choir sound beautiful together when everyone is singing a different note?

Two notes, together or one after the other, form a distance. Some distances sound calm together, others grate and want to move on.

If you can recognise those distances on paper and by ear, you can sight-sing faster, invent a second part or play back a melody.
