Listening to music

Listening to a piece with a listening map

A listening map draws a piece of music over time: the sections, who is playing, how loud it is. That way you listen with purpose and can say what you hear.

Secondary, first stageAges 11 to 16Draft: Not yet checked by a music teacher.

Why

How do you tell someone what happens in music that has no words?

In a piece without lyrics you hear a lot at once: a melody, instruments, getting louder and softer. It is easy to lose track.

A listening map is a floor plan of the piece. You follow it while you listen and see where you are and what is coming next.
